Transmogrification

A new NPC has appeared in the center of Shattrath - Zix Cogswright, a goblin engineer with a rather questionable reputation and a prototype he calls "the invention of the century". Zix offers players the quest "Transmogrifier" - in exchange for an assembly of several rare components, you gain access to your own transmogrification system.

What is transmogrification?
Transmogrification allows you to change the appearance of equipped items while keeping all their stats intact. The changes are visible to all players around you. You can run raids and battlegrounds with the original stats of your gear and the look you actually want!

How does transmogrification work?

Transmogrification uses a special item - the Transmogrifier. It can be used directly from your inventory anywhere you like. When activated, it opens a menu with a list of slots where item appearances can be saved.

Pick a slot and drag the item whose appearance you want to save from your bag into the window.

Saving each appearance requires Goblin Batteries, which differ between slot groups. The more sought-after the slot, the more valuable the battery needed. Once saved, appearances can be reused without limits.

We give players free rein!
On our server, transmogrification restrictions are kept to a bare minimum. You can transmogrify items with no stats (hats, shirts...), any two-handed weapon into another two-handed weapon, any one-handed weapon into another one-handed weapon (staves into two-handed swords, daggers into one-handed axes...), and one armor type into any other (cloth into plate, plate into leather, leather into mail...). So yes, you can build a mage in plate armor wielding a huge axe!

How to get a Transmogrifier on Moonwell x5?
For Zix to assemble the device for you, he needs four components:
  • Goblin Power Cell
  • Goblin Lens
  • Goblin Case
  • Goblin Matter Converter
All parts drop with a small chance from Antique Chests. The bag of Goblin Batteries needed to operate the device drops from the same source. So even after you have assembled the device, it makes sense to keep opening chests - a battery stockpile never hurts.

Transmogrifier components are not soulbound - spare parts can be freely traded, sold on the auction house, or handed off to friends. If you already have a lens and a second one drops, don't toss it - someone will definitely put it to use.

Why is it so hard to obtain?
The Transmogrifier is meant to be a rare and prestigious item, and the difficulty of obtaining it is its core feature. When such a device is easy to get, it quickly ends up on everyone and loses all its value - along with any interest in the process itself. The low drop rate of the parts solves several problems at once: it preserves the device's value for those who have assembled it, gives players a reason to keep opening Antique Chests, and sustains an active exchange of parts between players over the long run. This is not a temporary restriction that we will soften later - it's a deliberate design choice, and it will stay that way.
