Maiden of Virtue strategy in The Burning Crusade

This strategy is written for World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade (TBC 2.4.3), the Karazhan raid for 10 players. Mechanics and numbers match the fight on the Moonwell server.

The third boss of Karazhan, 10-player raid, needs one tank. There are no phases, but the raid stays spread out. Main danger: Repentance stuns everyone except the tank for 12 sec, and without preparation nobody can heal him. At 10 min Berserk: +500% damage.

Positioning

The tank holds the Maiden in the middle of the room; taunt does not work on her. Do not pull her into the corridor: the fight resets there. Around her is Holy Ground: about every 2 sec, 240–360 Holy damage and a 1-sec silence to everyone within 12 yd. Ranged and healers stand more than 12 yd from her and more than 10 yd from each other. Melee spread around the boss as wide as possible.

Repentance

The first Repentance at 30–45 sec, then every 33–36 sec. 0.6-sec cast, cannot be interrupted: 1,750–2,250 Holy damage and a 12-sec stun to everyone within 100 yd except the current target. Any damage breaks the stun, so players in Holy Ground get up almost at once. Before it is due, one healer steps into the circle, gets up first and heals the tank between silences. The tank uses defensive cooldowns. For 12 sec after Repentance, Holy Fire and Holy Wrath do not come: they share a cooldown.

Holy Fire

Holy Fire from 8–14 sec, then every 12–20 sec, 1-sec cast, cannot be interrupted. Target: a random player outside melee range, other than the top threat target. 3,238–3,762 Fire damage at once and 1,750 every 2 sec for 12 sec, another 10,500 in total. It is magic, dispel it at once: Dispel Magic, Cleanse.

Holy Wrath

Holy Wrath from 15–25 sec, then every 25–35 sec: a random player takes 1,950–2,050 Holy damage, then the lightning jumps to the nearest player within 10 yd, up to 10 targets. Each jump adds 40%: by the tenth target the damage is 20 times higher. A target with no neighbors within 10 yd takes only the first hit.

Healers

Before Repentance is due, put HoTs and shields on the tank. The rest of the time the healer from the circle steps out: the silence interrupts long casts.

DPS

Melee stand in Holy Ground and get up first after Repentance: hybrids top up the tank.

Common mistakes

  • No healer in the circle: everyone gets up only after 12 sec, and the tank dies.
  • The raid is stacked: Holy Wrath jumps with growing damage and kills the last targets.
  • Holy Fire was not dispelled: the target takes another 10,500 over 12 sec.
