Supremus strategy in The Burning Crusade

This strategy is written for World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade (TBC 2.4.3), the Black Temple raid for 25 players. Mechanics and numbers match the fight on the Moonwell server.

The second boss of Black Temple, a 25-player raid; you need 2–3 tanks. Two 60 sec phases alternate until the end of the fight: in the first, the tanks hold the boss; in the second, he chases a random player and places volcanoes. The main danger: Hateful Strike with no off-tank nearby, and the volcanoes. Berserk at 15 min.

Phase 1: tanks

Hateful Strike from 5 sec on, roughly every 5 sec, with a pause of up to 8 sec after Molten Punch: 27,750–32,250 physical damage. Target: the player in melee range with the highest current health, other than the top threat. If nobody else is nearby, the strike goes to the main tank.

Both phases: Molten Punch

Molten Punch at 11–15 sec, then roughly every 20 sec. For 10 sec, fire runs from the boss in a straight line toward a random player other than the top threat. It leaves Molten Flame behind: 3,325–3,675 per second within 5 yd, and each patch burns for 10 sec. A step to the side saves you.

Phase 2: the chase

Threat is wiped, the boss stands still for 1.5 sec, and Snare Self reduces his speed by 70%: a running player outruns him. For another 8 sec he hits whoever has the most threat: a tank picks him up at once. Then for 10 sec he follows only a random player, and a second later picks a new one. A target within 15 yd gets Charge: a knockback, and the boss barely deals damage for 3 sec. The target leads the boss away from the raid.

Phase 2: volcanoes

At 2 sec into the phase, then roughly every 10 sec, Volcanic Eruption places a Supremus Volcano under a random player other than the chase target. After 3 sec, Volcanic Geyser starts: 4,163–4,837 Fire damage per second within 15 yd, 18 sec in total. Move more than 15 yd away at once.

Back to phase 1

Threat is wiped again, and the boss stands still for 1.5 sec. The tank hits first; everyone else waits 2–3 sec.

Tanks

Taunt doesn't work. Off-tanks stand right next to the boss at full health: they take Hateful Strike.

Healers

In phase 2, heal on the move with instant spells.

DPS

Melee keep their health lower than the off-tanks'. The boss has 210 Fire resistance, so Fire spells are weaker.

Common mistakes

  • An off-tank moved away or died: Hateful Strike goes to the main tank.
  • A DPS has more health than the tanks: he takes about 30,000.
  • Standing in a volcano: two or three hits are lethal.
