This strategy is written for World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade (TBC 2.4.3), the Black Temple raid for 25 players. Mechanics and numbers match the fight on the Moonwell server.
A 25-player fight; you need 3 tanks. The phases cycle: 60 sec of the normal phase and 30 sec of Fel Rage. The main danger: Bloodboil taken twice in a row, and the random player the boss hits for the whole second phase.
Normal phase: Bloodboil
Every 11 sec, five times per phase, it hits the five players farthest from the boss: 600 physical damage per second for 24 sec, and the stacks add up. Ranged and healers split into three groups of five. A group that got a stack moves closer, and the next one moves back. Stacks are removed by Ice Block, Divine Shield and Blessing of Protection.
Normal phase: strikes
Acidic Wound from every hit: 300 Nature damage every 3 sec and −500 armor per stack, for 1 min. Arcing Smash every 10 sec: a 10 yd cone, applies the same stack. Bewildering Strike at 15 sec, then every 20 sec: the tank is disoriented for 8 sec. Eject once at 30–35 sec: knockback and −50% of the tank's threat. Fel-Acid Breath at 25 sec, then every 25–30 sec: a 2 sec cast at a random melee player, 15 yd cone, 2,850–3,150 Nature damage and 2,750 every 5 sec for 20 sec. Melee stand on one side; the target moves to the other.
Fel Rage: 30 sec
At 60 sec, a random player outside the top two on threat gets Fel Rage: +30,000 HP, +15,000 armor, +300% damage, +100% healing, no immunities. The boss stands still for 2 sec, then hits only that player: +85% damage. Around the target, Fel Geyser: 3,238–3,762 Nature damage and a knock-up to everyone within 18 yd, so everyone spreads out after the fifth Bloodboil. Everyone else gets Insignificance, 30 sec with no threat: time for Bloodlust. The target is hit by Arcing Smash (healing −50% for 4 sec) and Fel-Acid Breath (2,750 per second for 5 sec), and Charge catches up with it. At the end, the target's threat is wiped.
Timer
Berserk at 10 min: +500% damage and +150% speed.
Tanks
Taunt doesn't work. Three tanks stand right next to each other and close on threat. At 10–15 wound stacks the main tank stops building threat, and the next one takes the boss. A paladin removes the stacks with Divine Shield. After Fel Rage, the main tank gets under the boss at once.
Healers
During Fel Rage almost everyone heals the target, and one healer keeps up the rest.
DPS
Don't stand in front of the boss. The Fel Rage target runs to the tank spot, back to the raid, and uses defensive abilities.
Common mistakes
- Someone took a second Bloodboil in a row: 1,200 per second or more.
- The raid stacks up before Fel Rage: the Geyser hits and knocks up everyone near the target.
- The Fel Rage target stands in the raid: the boss's cones hit the players nearby.
- The tank was not swapped: 20 wound stacks mean −10,000 armor and 2,000 damage per second.
